Frequently Asked Kofod Larsen Questions

Authentic Ib Kofod-Larsen pieces typically carry one of three identifiers: a Selig label (the American importer that distributed his designs in the US market – Selig labels appear on the underside of lounge chairs and seating), a Faarup Mobelfabrik stamp or label (the Danish manufacturer that produced his teak credenzas and dining pieces – typically stamped on the underside or behind backboards), or a Made in Denmark mark with the designer’s name. Construction tells include sculpted teak or walnut frames with bookmatched veneer detailing, leather sling or cane upholstery on lounge chairs, and tambour doors and adjustable interior shelving on credenzas. Our product pages document the manufacturer label and country mark when verifiable.

Kofod-Larsen’s most-recognized design is the Selig U-56 Elizabeth Chair, a sculpted teak and leather lounge chair given its name after Queen Elizabeth II purchased the design at the 1958 Brussels World’s Fair Danish exhibit. Other widely-collected Kofod-Larsen designs include high-back wingback lounge chairs in teak with leather sling upholstery, walnut credenzas and sideboards (typically produced by Faarup Mobelfabrik with tambour doors and adjustable shelving), and dining-chair series in teak with paper-cord or leather seating. Our inventory rotates through these forms regularly; product pages document the model designation when present on the original label.
