Frequently Asked Questions

  • Most pieces listed on our website are photographed as-is. With our As-Is pricing we still touch the piece up before shipping and ensure it's structurally solid. If you opt for the full restoration, the piece will be sanded down to remove any chips, dents, or scratches and a fresh coat of stain will be applied. Doors, drawers, and structure are inspected and repaired as needed. Multiple pieces can be refinished to make a matched set. Once we're done you'll receive a like-new vintage piece ready for 60 more years of use.

  • Absolutely. We offer nationwide shipping on all of our pieces. Delivery is White Glove — we bring the piece into your home and set it up wherever you'd like. You only pay for shipping on your first piece; additional pieces ship for free. You can add pieces at any time, so there's no need to wait to place your full order at once.

  • Every piece is carefully blanket wrapped before it leaves our warehouse. Our shippers exclusively deliver our furniture and are experienced handling vintage pieces. In the very unlikely event of any transit damage, your piece is fully insured by Modern Hill.

Witco

Dive Into the History of Witco Furniture

In mid-century modern furniture, Witco Furniture holds a distinguished place. Renowned for its avant-garde designs and use of Western Cedar, Witco profoundly impacted the furniture landscape, influencing future design trends and captivating the hearts of modern collectors. Founded by William Westenhaver in the 1950s, Witco Furniture was born out of a unique vision. Westenhaver, a Art Center School of Design graduate in Los Angeles, was captivated by Polynesian and Oceanic art, and he aspired to create a line of furniture that would bring this exotic aesthetic into the contemporary American home. Witco's designs were bold and unconventional. Westenhaver and his team crafted pieces that combined rustic materials with innovative design approaches, creating a exotic and modern look. Western red cedar, a soft and easily carved wood, became a defining element of Witco's creations. The organic nature of the wood and its beautiful grain contributed to the distinctive, handcrafted look of Witco's furniture. The furniture created by Witco was marked by its dramatic, sculptural forms. Often large in scale, these pieces served as statement-making centerpieces in the home. Witco became particularly famous for its Tiki-style furniture and decor items, which found favor among those seeking a touch of the exotic in their living spaces. Throughout the 1960s and 1970s, Witco Furniture enjoyed immense popularity. It found its way into thousands of homes across America, including that of the King of Rock 'n' Roll himself, Elvis Presley. Presley's famous Jungle Room at Graceland, filled with Witco pieces, is a testament to the brand's popularity and cultural impact. Yet, despite its popularity, Witco Furniture remained a family-run enterprise. The Westenhaver family's commitment to their unique vision and quality craftsmanship underscored Witco's operations until the company closed its doors in the late 1970s. Today, Witco Furniture is treasured by mid-century modern enthusiasts and collectors. Its unique designs, the story behind its creation, and its cultural significance make Witco pieces highly sought after. These pieces continue to inspire, reminding us of a time when furniture was more than just utilitarian - it was a form of self-expression and a celebration of the unconventional. We are proud to offer a selection of Witco Furniture pieces. We invite you to explore our collection and experience the unique charm of Witco - a brand that truly captured the spirit of its time and continues to captivate ours.
