Yes. A significant portion of our bar stool inventory is listed as matching pairs, sets of 3, or sets of 4, original factory-matched pieces from the same production run. Matching sets command a premium over single units because intact sets are increasingly rare on the secondary market. Use the filters on this page or contact us with the exact count you need, and we will help you locate a match even if you already own one or two stools from the same line.
Bar-height stools typically have a 30-inch seat height and are meant for bars or tables 42 inches tall or higher. Counter-height stools have a 24 to 26-inch seat height and are meant for kitchen islands or counters 36 inches tall. A proper stool sits 9 to 12 inches below the counter or bar surface. We document seat height on every listing so you can match a stool to your bar or counter without measuring twice. If you are unsure, contact us with your surface height and we will point you to the right configuration.
Most mid century swivel bar stools were designed with swivel mechanisms from the factory. Harry Bertoia for Knoll, Erik Buch from Danish workshops, and several American manufacturers produced swivel stools as standard product lines. The original mechanisms used heavy ball-bearing assemblies that last decades with minimal maintenance. Retrofitted swivels are less common on mid century stools and usually visible on close inspection: misaligned mounting holes, non-original hardware, or a mechanism that looks newer than the stool frame. Every swivel stool at Modern Hill has the mechanism tested before shipment, and we disclose any non-original swivel hardware in the listing.
Yes. Restoration is available on every bar stool we sell, full reupholstery in leather, fabric, or cane, frame refinishing, and mechanism service. Restoration is entirely optional. Many collectors prefer the original upholstery and patina, especially on designer pieces where originality affects value. Request a restoration quote during checkout or contact us before purchase if you would like a detailed plan for a specific stool or set.
